Colon Cleansing And Exercise - extra notes
The lower abdomen
contains many of the body's most important organs; colon, liver,
kidneys and bladder, and reproductive organs. The good function of
these organs is vital to our health. Colon
cleansing helps, but exercise of the abdomen is also very
important.
Unfortunately, gravity is not on our side in the
matter. To stop the colon and other organs falling when we stand or
sit, the 'peritoneum' and the 'mesentery' pass between or around
the abdominal organs and suspend the organs in place. The colon, or
large intestine, follows the path of three sides of a square, from
the bottom right of the abdomen vertically up, across under the
ribs, and then down to the lower left of the abdomen.
X-rays show that the horizontal section of colon,
under the ribs, is very prone to dropping down. This is called
'prolapse' of the colon. Underneath this central part of the colon
are the bladder, prostate, small intestine, and, in women, the womb
and reproductive organs. By prolapsing, the colon can easily press
on these organs causing dysfunction. Clearly, this tendency of the
colon to drop would interfere with colon cleansing.
Exercise which involves the abdomen helps with
colon cleansing. It can help to exercise the abdominal organs - and
massage them - as well as helping to support the organs in place,
by improving the circulation to, and quality of, the supporting
peritoneum and mesentery.
The above exercises and those over the page will
help the abdomen in general and help promote colon
cleansing by exercising the abdomen in a way which you may
well not do normally.
General exercise is also often very good for the
abdomen. This might include cycling, swimming, walking, especially
'off road', racket games, many sports, and activities which involve
twisting the body.
Yoga is a particularly good form
of exercise which greatly helps the abdomen and will certainly
promote colon cleansing. This is discussed over the page.
